Kitten Care in Hot Climates: A Gulf Owner's Guide

Gulf summers are unforgiving, but with a few simple habits your kitten will thrive year-round. Keep indoor temperatures between 22–25°C, never leave a cat on a balcony or in a car, and provide multiple sources of clean, filtered water — ideally at least one running fountain, which most cats drink from more readily than a bowl. For longhair breeds like the Persian, Maine Coon, and Siberian, brush the coat 2–4 times a week to prevent trapped heat and mats. For shorthairs, weekly grooming is enough. During peak summer, avoid unnecessary daytime travel; if you must move the kitten, use a well-ventilated carrier and pre-cool the car. Watch for early signs of heat stress: rapid panting, drooling, lethargy, or bright red gums. Move the cat to a cool room, offer water, and contact your vet immediately if symptoms persist.
